 Goodyear's Ultra Grip tire is intended solely for use in the winter, as it provides excellent snow and ice traction and is fitted for metal studs, while it does not function as well in dry conditions.

Overall this tire performs better in snow and slush than on ice, though ice handling is decent. Its treads have a special blend of polymers made specifically for snow and rain use, and the directional tread pattern has multiple deep grooves to evacuate snow and water. It has a high blade density and unique blade shapes which provide a high number of biting edges for grip on snow and ice. The shoulder blocks are also heavy and serve the same purpose. This tread wears evenly.
